I don't know if that fits, as I've never seen Brown. The food "celebrities" I like best are Emeril, Jacques Pepin, Michael Chiarello, and of course Rachel Ray.

The description of Alton Brown is kind of weird. Good Eats focuses on scientific explantions for recipes. For example, on his chocolate chip cookie show he made 3 different styles of cookies [one thin, one cakelike, and something else], describing the different ingredients used, and why. Emeril's fun to watch, but I'll never make anything he makes. Rachel Ray undertips on her 40$ A Day.

I'd take the Alton-likeness as a compliment. He's one of my favorite chefs - informative and entertaining.
