Borderlands of Science
Another good non-fiction reference is Borderlands of Science by the late Charles Sheffield. As with the previous book mentioned, Baen Books has an electronic version available. If I could get anywhere near the level of these stories, I'd be a very happy camper.

Another good one is "A Step Further Out" by Jerry Pournelle. Also, the fact bits of the paperback "New Destinies" series of sort of magazines from Baen.

I have that as well. I also have the various Pournelle-Carr anthologies that mixed SF and NF, as well as the older "Destinies" and Pournelle's "Far Frontier" series. All good stuff. I tried to get Baen Books to go for a new non-fiction book, written by "Doc" Taylor. No luck so far, but the seed has been planted, maybe it will sprout.
