The Warm Glow
Some nice pictures of early...valves...I mean, tubes! Great stuff, reminds me of my grandfather's amateur radio setup. More nifty stuff here, as well. You can find an occasional supplier, but it is becoming more difficult.
You can build some interesting home-brew stuff, including crystal radios, analog radios and even some solid state stuff. Heck, you can even go snap component, if you want.

There's still something about the warms glow of "valves" that I prefer. Partly it is due to the association with my grandfather's basement, but it goes as well to early science fiction, to the tales of Kipling, heck, even a lot of stuff by Sir Arthur C. Clarke.
Like Meccano and Erector, it might hearken back to a "simpler time", but unlike our mad videogame world, things like this seem to exercise your brain more.
