Carnival Shuffle (01)

Phew! 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM. I had to stop the iPod at one point because things were moving too fast (not enough help...or rather, not enough help willing to pitch in on the dirty stuff and coordinate things, so I stepped into both roles). So, not as much music listened too as I had expected. What I did get through though was:

The Beatles: "The End" (Abbey Road). "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" (The Beatles).

David Bowie: "Ashes to Ashes" (ChangesBowie).

Collection/Various: "Neroli" (Brian Eno) (Compounds + Elements: An Introduction to All Saints Records). "Joy to the World" (Three Dog Night) (Forrest Gump). "In the Jailhouse Now" (The Soggy Bottom Boys) (O Brother, Where Art Thou).

Dire Straits: "Brothers in Arms" (Brothers in Arms).

Brian Eno: "Another Green World"; "Little Fishes" (Another Green World). "Sparrowfall" (Music for Films).

(Another Green World ranks with Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) and Before and After Science as my three favorite works by Brian Eno.)

Brian Eno, Roger Eno and Daniel Lanois: "Under Stars" (Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks).

Brian Eno and David Byrne: "Qu'ran" (My Life in the Bush of Ghosts).

(Hmm...will a fatwah be put against me for listening to that track?)

Philip Glass: "Caravan Moves Out"; "Lhasa at Night" (Kundun). "Caught!" (Powaqqatsi).

(Glass has done a lot of soundtrack work and this is one of my favorites. I recall seeing a documentary on Edgar Allen Poe that showed a short film with music by Glass as well as, if memory serves, an opera by Glass based on The Fall of the House of Usher. Wish those would be released!)

Herbie Hancock: TFS (Future Shock)

George Harrison: "Plug Me In" (All Things Must Pass). "Devil's Radio" (Cloud Nine).

King Crimson: "21st Century Schizoid Man, Including 'Mirrors'" (In the Court of the Crimson King).

(Still a great album. I know Robert Fripp is tired of it, but I still enjoy that song.)

Paul McCartney & Wings: "Jet" (Band on the Run).

(I still listen to the lyrics of this one and wonder what they were smoking.)

Sarah McLachlan: "Adia"; "Last Dance" (Surfacing).

Natalie Merchant: "Gun Shy" (Live in Concert).

Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden: "Waltzing for Ruth" (Under Missouri Skies).

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: "Alright for Now"; "Louisiana Rain"; "Mike's Life/Mike's World" (Playback).

The Police: "Darkness" (Ghost in the Machine).

A Produce: "The Wall of Bali" (Land of a Thousand Trances).

(I first heard tracks from this album on the radio show Hearts of Space. Not too many albums seem to have ben done by the artist, alas. Still raises the hair on the back of my neck when I hear the opening notes of the first track of the album.)

R.E.M.: "Star Me Kitten" (Automatic for the People). "Windout" (Dead Letter Office). "Gardening at Night" (Eponymous). "I Believe"; "Track 12" (Life's Rich Pageant). "Bang and Blame" (Monster).

Renaissance: "Don't Talk" (Trip to the Fair).

Todd Rundgren: "When I Pray" (Faithful).

Marc Seales: "Highway Blues" (Speakin' Out).

Paul Simon: "Further to Fly" (Rhythm of the Saints)

Steely Dan: "With a Gun" (Pretzel Logic).

Sting: "Rock Steady" (Nothing Like the Sun).

Talking Heads: "Road to Nowhere" (Sand in the Vaseline).

(I blame Steve Hart.)

10,000 Maniacs: "Noah's Dove" (MTV Unplugged).

U2: "Lemon"; "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" (Zooropa).

XTC: "Frost Circus"; "Procession Towards Learning Land" (Mummer).

I am not scheduled to be doing kitchen work tomorrow...except for the fact that they are short on kitchen staff, so I may go in anyway. If so, expect another musical posting!
